Mikkle Masterclasses

October 2020

8 of our young leaders took part in an international workshop with the Jamaican - Every Mikkle Foundation.

The workshop was focused on entrepreneurship and our young leaders learnt some of the fundamentals for starting your own business, including how to register a business and pitch an idea.

Our Young Leaders were split into different teams to work on their own
idea to pitch. This international gathering featured young people from the USA, Jamaica,
Trinidad, Kenya and Ghana providing our young leaders with an opportunity
to develop international links.

Each team had a practice run of their pitch and the following day they were assigned groups. One week later the official pitch competition began in front of a panel of successful entrepreneurs.

The hard work and effort put in by our young leaders really showed on the day of the presentation! Our young leaders presented with clarity and confidence during the pitches; Kalkidan and Caitlin both did amazingly, with Emmanuella helping to lead her group to 2nd place in the competition with their idea of StudentSpace, a platform to help young people's mental health. Hattie helped her group to achieve third place with the group
Lifestyle on demand.

The eventual winners were a team called Asili, presenting an ecommerce idea, looking to connect those who sell primary resources in Africa with the global market. Our very own Omar Pierre-Williams created a short animation for the pitch helping the team win the grand (first) prize.

I'm sure all of the programme participants will put the skills they have learned to good use in the future, and we look forward to seeing what they do next.
